Racine women accused of attacking pregnant woman face new charges; victim demanding justice
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A pregnant Racine mom is still recovering nearly one month after she was attacked by two people while leaving her job.
"Definitely justice does have to be served," said Gheonna Lacy.
Two sisters, Marielle and Melvina Barrios are being charged in the attack. However, Lacy says she's uneasy as a third suspect has still not been found.
"It's definitely different having to go outside and really have to watch over your shoulder," Lacy. "I was never that type of person that had to do anything like that ever. It's something I have to get used to now, because I never know."
Police say on January 15th, Marielle was one of two people who beat Lacy with a bat near Windsor Way in Racine, while saying "Beat the baby out" and "kill that baby."
"Still healing from some face bruises and some arm bruises, very little fainting of the stomach bruise, but it's still a little visible," said Lacy.
Police say Melvina helped her sister with an alibi, by pretending to be Marielle at Walmart during the time of the attack.
Police say the two sisters then fled in a U-Haul truck and were found nearly a week later in Arkansas.
"It definitely gets emotional having to talk about it or even just having to think about it," Lacy.
Racine police say they are still looking for the second attacker.
"I would like for the other party that was involved in the incident to be arrested as well," said Lacy."
More than 20 weeks pregnant, Lacy says luckily her baby boy is okay.
However, she says she's still healing and dealing with the trauma of the attack, unable to go back to work.
"It will be a struggle to go back," said Lacy. "I'm not sure when I will go back, but I definitely obviously have to at some point."
Marielle is facing several charges including armed robbery, battery and obstructing an officer.
Melvina is being charged with harboring or aiding a felon and obstructing an officer.
