CHIPPEWA FALLS Wis. (CBS 58) -- President Donald Trump is returning to Wisconsin for the first time since 2024. He will visit Chippewa Falls to discuss how his administration is supporting local farmers.

In Chippewa County, more than 60% of voters supported President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. While most of the people we spoke with still support the president, one former farmer says he would like to hear how President Trump plans to help the little guy.

“The reason I got out of the business is they change the prices on our milk,” said Jim Sima, a former dairy farmer and Chippewa County resident.

Sima has been out of the dairy business for 26 years. He ran a small operation with a herd of around 150 cattle. He said the profits were not there after milk prices fell. He voted for the president and supports his policies, but he would like to hear how President Trump plans to help family farms and smaller operations.

“They are rooting for that big guy. The big guy isn’t the answer,” Sima said. “Folks, the small farmers who built this country, not that big farmer.”

In an advisory sent to the press, the White House highlighted several policies the administration says have benefited farmers.

The advisory says President Trump has delivered for farmers by saving an estimated 55,600 family farms in Wisconsin by permanently eliminating the death tax through his Working Families Tax Cuts.

The administration also says the president’s policies have delivered an average of $2,642 in savings to rural Wisconsinites, secured $124.5 million in savings on crop insurance for Wisconsin farmers, and supplied nearly $625 million in funding for Wisconsin's Farm Safety Net.

“I just really want to hear something positive. You know what I mean? Because sometimes it’s constant, you know,” said Peggy Peters, a Chippewa Falls resident. “I trust him. I think he is great. It would just be really nice to hear him say something positive about things that are going on, make myself feel better.”

Peters works at a local business in the heart of downtown Chippewa Falls. She voted for the president and still supports him. She admits some businesses have closed in the downtown area, but she is hopeful the president’s policies will bring business back to the area.

“I have faith in it, you know what I mean?” Peters said. “I haven’t seen a whole lot recently, but I think it is going to happen, if that makes any sense. You know, something that is a work in progress, obviously. You know, he has a lot to do.”

President Donald Trump is scheduled to be in Chippewa County Friday, where he will host a round table to highlight his agricultural policies.
