RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) — A Racine woman is recovering after police say her ex-boyfriend shot her and stabbed her in the head with a screwdriver Tuesday morning.

Video provided to CBS 58 by the victim's family shows the terrifying moments unfold as she runs out of a home after gunshots are heard and screams for help.

"What are you doing? Oh my God," the victim can be heard saying. "Help me, help me, he's got a gun."

That's when Stuart Brown said the woman ran into his auto shop on Washington Avenue in Racine.

"She came running in and I'm walking over here, screaming her brains out, and I'm going, 'What's going on?'" said Brown, who owns Stu's Auto Services.

Brown said the situation escalated quickly when a man with a gun showed up.

"He comes running in like this with a pistol and bam, in my face, and I said, 'Whoa,'" Brown said. "I came running out here and I said to my guys and my customer, 'Get out. Someone's got a gun.'"

One of Brown's co-workers was still inside as the woman was attacked.

"She was down over here. He was pistol-whipping her, bam, bam, bam," Brown said. "Then he's over here, he says, 'Get off her,' and he just turned around and pointed it right in his face. What's he going to do?"

Brown said the man also pointed the gun at him before he was able to run across the street to the fire department for help.

"When I saw that gun, I was like, 'Am I going to go home?'" Brown said.

Police say 23-year-old Luke Greuel, the woman's ex-boyfriend, shot her and stabbed her in the head with a screwdriver.

Police say Greuel was arrested at the scene and admitted to shooting her.

He is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, armed burglary and pointing a firearm at another.

"I want to see him locked up for quite a while," Brown said. "He doesn't deserve to be on the streets. He's a punk. He's an idiot."

CBS 58 spoke with a family member who said the woman is still processing what happened and recovering and is not ready to speak publicly. She has, however, been vocal on social media, sharing her story of survival.

Greuel made his initial court appearance Aug. 19, when a $100,000 cash bond was set.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2 at 8:30 a.m.
