Jacob Kittilstad started his conversation with Racine Mayor Cory Mason with questions about the most recent developments with Foxconn. The discussion also explored Mayor Mason’s resolution to make the city a part of the Paris Climate Accord (which President Donald Trump has pulled the United States from). In addition, Mayor Mason talked about the latest developments for the review of the Racine Police Department following this year’s officer involved shooting.

The conversation with Mayor Cory Mason continued with a reflection on how his life has changed sense being sworn into office. He says he has very little free time between his work with the city and his time with his wife and young children. He also shared his thoughts on the documented economic disparity between white citizens and black citizens in the city of Racine – which was recently given the title of “4th Worst City for Black People” in the United States.

Recently the board for the Racine Unified School District heard a proposal to include eSports more schools in the area. Jacob spoke to the administrator who made that presentation as well as a graduating senior from the district who has received a $6,000/year scholarship to be a part of Robert Morris University’s Overwatch Team.

Next week, women from across the state will be competing at the Miss Wisconsin Scholarship Pageant in Oshkosh. That includes Haley Schonter – a former Miss Racine and current Miss Milwaukee Area. Her platform emphasizes domestic violence and she has spent a lot of time in schools talking to children and teenagers about recognizing the signs of abuse. She became interested in the issue after her step-sister Cary Robuck was killed in the 2012 domestic violence-related shooting at the Azana Salon and Spa in Brookfield. It took her a long time to come to terms with that act - and she wants to try to prevent similar acts in the future.

Guests: Cory Mason – Racine Mayor, James O’Hagan – Racine Unified School District Director of Digital and Virtual Learning, Zach Woods – Walden III High School Senior, Haley Schonter – Miss Milwaukee Area and Former Miss Racine
