Racine & Me: Wells Brothers Pizza discusses viral review
RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- Bill Rivers, Elise Rivers, and Liz Surendonk of Wells Brothers Pizza in Racine joined us on Racine & Me to discuss their family business and recent viral review.
Liz released the following information about Wells Brothers:
"Our restaurant has been family owned and operated for 102 years and 4 generations. In 1921 James and Dominic Wells opened Wells Brothers Restaurant on the corner of 22nd and Mead St. in Racine/Mount Pleasant. James operated the restaurant until his death in 1944, and then sons Tony and Guy took over the restaurant until 1999. Continuing in the tradition of a family-owned restaurant, Guy’s daughter, Paula Huck, and nephew, Bill Rivers, took over the business and ran it together until 2016.
Currently Bill and his daughters, Liz Surendonk and Elise Rivers, operate the business. We have only one location and don’t have any current plans for any moves or new locations. · We’re known for our pizza but have many other customer favorites; such as bruschetta, Antipasto salad, lasagna, Goomba sandwich, and beef sandwiches. Our pizzas are build your own, but we do also have specialty pizzas on the menu as well as a Pizza of the Month. We have an amazing staff who are our extended family. Some of them have been with us for 10 years or more. Our loyal customers have kept us going for all these years. We love seeing the generations returning to our dining room year after year. We were lucky enough to survive 2020 by continuing with just carryout services. We are so thankful for all our loyal customers who came in and kept us in business. Dave Portnoy and his Barstool Pizza Review followers have brought a whole new group of people to us. We are so excited to greet new customers and appreciate everyone’s patience as we are navigating how to handle the increase in business and volume of pizzas. The exposure Portnoy has brought to us and to Racine County is amazing! We personally have so many local favorites (restaurants and landmarks) that we love to share with customers when we chat with them!
