Racine & Me: Youth Volunteer Corps of Racine
RACINE, Wis (CBS 58) -- The Youth Volunteer Corps of Racine (YVC) is a program of the Volunteer Center of Racine County.
YVC provides volunteer opportunities, career exploration and skill training for youth ages 11-18. The Youth Program began at the Volunteer Center of Racine County with its inception in 2000. In 2003, it became the Youth Volunteer Corps of Racine when it became an affiliate of the Youth Volunteer Corps. YVC of Racine has engaged thousands of youths over the years. For the current 2023-24 fiscal year YVC of Racine is tracking to have approximately 300 youth enrolled in the program, complete approximately 100 service projects, serve approximately 4000 service hours, serve 30,000 people in our community, and partner with 50 different organizations. YVC of Racine is ranked #8 of YVC affiliates in the United States, Canada, and Uganda. The program is also a gold star affiliate, scoring over a 90% on its 2023 evaluation.
Youth Volunteer Corps of Racine Global Youth Service Day Hygiene Giveaway:
YVC of Racine will be holding a hygiene giveaway on Saturday, April 27th from 1 pm – 3 pm at the Village of Mount Pleasant Lakeside COP House. This will be a drive-up event. Racine County Residents will be able to receive free hygiene items while supplies last. Youth Volunteer Corps Summer Camp: The Youth Volunteer Corps of Racine will hold volunteer summer camp from June 17th, 2024, through the week of August 26, 2024. Youth Volunteer Summer Camp is open to youth 11-18 and completely free of charge. Every week, of summer camp gives youth volunteers a different experience. Youth Volunteers will have opportunities to volunteer at different at different non-profit organizations, explore different career opportunities, take financial literacy classes, learn how to build a resume, how to interview for a job and much more. Summer Camps to highlight: Dragon Boat Racing Taking place July 8th – July 10th, 2024, Provided by Racine Dragon Boat Club Youth attending the Dragon Boat Racing will get to learn water safety, rowing and operation of a dragon boat, and will get the opportunity to race the dragon boats. Rock the Block Taking place August 12th – 16th 2024 Youth Volunteers will be working on the beautification of the neighborhood surrounding the Villa Street Cop House and St. Catherine’s High School. Thirty properties have been identified, and youth volunteers will complete various tasks free of charge to include- scraping, painting, pressure washing, landscaping, yardwork, laying mulch, planting flowers/shrubbery, neighborhood wide trash pick-up.
