Racine Saint Catherine's, Lomira bring home state football championships
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The fall high school sport season comes to a close this weekend in Madison. Five area teams are playing for state titles in high school football.
It's been six years since Racine Saint Catherine's played for a state title. In 2018, it was an 8-7 win for the Angels over St. Croix Central with a touchdown coming with 0:12 to play. This time around, Saint Cat's needed an interception from Issac Cantu with 0:28 to play to seal a 26-22 win over Baldwin-Woodville.
Junior Wide Receiver Lamont Hamilton set a Division 4 state title game record with 155 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the game. He also added a kick return touchdown for 275 all-purpose yards.
In its first ever trip to the state tournament, Lomira brings home a Division 6 state title. The Lions topped the Grantsburg Pirates 26-19.
Senior running back Taylor Schaumberg led the way for the Lions with 29 carries for 216 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. His 216 yards are the fifth most in a Division 6 state title game.
Jackson Goebel also threw a touchdown to Sam Schraufnagel in the third quarter.
It's the third championship overall in school history after a baseball and girls championship in 1978 and 1994, respectively.
