Randy Bryce 'Iron Stash' kicks off campaign against GOP Rep. Steil

CBS 58

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Democrat Randy Bryce is running again for congress to challenge Republican Rep. Bryan Steil in Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District.

Bryce, an iron worker from Racine, gained national attention in 2018 after taking on then-Speaker Paul Ryan. He became a rising star, known as "Iron Stash" on the campaign trail, for his support for unions, Medicare for all, and other popular ideas backed by progressives.

Months later, Ryan announced his retirement which put Bryce up against current Republican Rep. Bryan Steil, who won by double-digits.

In a campaign video posted on "X," Bryce said, "I’ve never left a job unfinished."

“Trump promised to bring manufacturing back,” Bryce said. "Eight years later, we’re still waiting.”

Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District includes Racine, Kenosha, Beloit, Janesville and other rural areas in the southeastern part of the state.

Steil was reelected to his fourth term in November. He beat Democrat Peter Barca, a former Democratic lawmaker.
