Ranked teams make statements as Week 5 begins across Wisconsin
CBS 58 WISCONSIN (CBS 58) — Week 5 of the Wisconsin high school football season kicked off Thursday with several ranked teams looking to strengthen their positions as contenders.
While the Greater Milwaukee Area had a lighter slate, several notable matchups across the state delivered dominant performances and a few close finishes.
Greater Milwaukee Area
Milwaukee Bay View opened the night with a 20-12 victory over Milwaukee Pulaski Co-op.
The Redcats improved to 5-1, while the Rams fell to 3-2.
Milwaukee Hamilton and the Milwaukee School of Languages had a back-and-forth game, but it was Hamilton winning 30-28.
The Wildcats improved to 3-3, while the Hawks fell to 1-4.
Elsewhere Around the State
One of the biggest matchups of the night featured Division 1 No. 9 De Pere traveling to face No. 3 Bay Port.
Despite the anticipation surrounding the ranked showdown, Bay Port took control and rolled to a 44-7 victory.
The Pirates remained perfect at 5-0, while the Redbirds fell to 3-2.
Division 1 No. 4 West De Pere also stayed unbeaten with a dominant 42-0 road victory over Appleton West.
The Phantoms improved to 5-0 and have now outscored their opponents 80-0 over their past two games. Appleton West fell to 3-2.
Division 2 No. 1 Notre Dame Academy continued its dominant start to the season with a 70-0 victory over Green Bay East.
Led by Wisconsin commit Kingston Allen, the Tritons improved to 5-0, while the Red Devils fell to 0-5.
Pulaski also turned in a dominant defensive performance against Ashwaubenon, shutting out the Jaguars 35-0.
The Red Raiders improved to 4-1, while Ashwaubenon fell to 3-2 after a second straight loss. The Jaguars have been outscored 73-0 over those two games.
Division 3 No. 5 La Crosse Logan survived a rivalry battle against La Crosse Central, earning a 37-29 victory.
The Rangers remained unbeaten at 5-0, while the Riverhawks fell to 3-2.
One of the closest finishes of the night came between Sparta and Tomah.
Tomah led for much of the game, but Sparta rallied late to pull out a 28-27 victory.
The Spartans improved to 3-2, while the Timberwolves dropped to 0-5.
Week 5 continues Friday with a much larger slate across Wisconsin, including several ranked matchups throughout southeastern Wisconsin and beyond.
