Report: Brewers expected to promote bench coach Pat Murphy to manager
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Brewers have reportedly found their new manager.
Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic reports the Brewers are expected to name bench coach Pat Murphy to replace Craig Counsell as the Brewers' skipper.
Murphy was a legendary college baseball coach at Notre Dame and Arizona State, and among his most talented players was Craig Counsell, who brought Murphy to Milwaukee in 2016 as bench coach. Murphy stayed in Milwaukee through the rest of Counsell's time as Brewers manager.
Murphy was an interim manager with the San Diego Padres in 2015. He also filled in for Counsell for one game in 2023 while Counsell went to his son's high school graduation.
Brewers expected to name Pat Murphy their new manager, sources tell @TheAthletic. Murphy, Craig Counsell’s former coach at Notre Dame and his bench coach in Milwaukee from 2015 to ‘23, would become his rival in the NL Central.
