Residents displaced after Delavan apartment fire; 4 first responders treated at scene

DELAVAN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- More than two dozen residents are displaced following an apartment fire in Delavan Thursday, Nov. 2.

Crews arrived at the scene near 2nd and McDowell Street just before 9 p.m., according to the Delavan Fire Department, and found two of the 38-unit apartments in flames.

Officials say about 10 minutes into the incident, two officers became temporarily trapped on upper floors while rescuing residents. Fire crews raised a ladder to the third flood, however the officers managed to make their way out of the building.

Firefighters brought the fire down in about 15 minutes, but authorities say heavy smoke remained throughout the complex. Two police officers, two firefighters and two residents were treated by EMS personnel on scene, and three were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.

The fire department says all residents have been displaced until further notice. The American Red Cross is providing food and shelter.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
