A boost in temperatures despite the lack of sunshine
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin's Ron Johnson has joined 14 other Republican Senators in calling for a special conference to discuss border security.
The 15 GOP Senators want to wait until the week of January 8th to discuss the ongoing talks with the White House and Senate Democrats about how to make the southern border more secure.
At an event Friday in Oshkosh, Johnson said given the surge of border traffic going back to 2021, improving security must happen before congress can address the laws around legal immigration.
"This is a flood of people that are from a different culture, that don't speak our language, that are far too many of them are dealing in drugs. This is going to be a problem that we're going to have to deal with for years and years," said Johnson on Friday.
President Joe Biden has said he wants more money for the boarder as part of a larger package that also includes Israel and Ukraine.
In a statement Sunday, Johnson said any more money for Ukraine should be tied to monthly border benchmarks.
Biden will be in Milwaukee Wednesday to discuss the economy.
