MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee Brewers and SC Johnson are teaming up in 2020 to cut down on plastic waste.
At a press conference on Friday, it was announced there will be a new recycling model in place at Miller Park this season.
Fans will be able to place plastic drink cups branded with the SC Johnson logo in specially designed receptacles to separate them from other waste.
SC Johnson will then collect the cups and use the recycled plastic to create the company's Scrubbing Bubbles bottles.
“Doing this program to me is one of the steps we can do as a community, organization and social institution to give back and help do something," Brewers President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger said. "Every one of our fans who drinks a beer or drinks a soda at Miller Park will be part of the experience, part of the program and in a small way, doing something to help the world problem of plastics.”
Brewers pitchers Brent Suter and Corey Knebel were also at the press conference and voiced support for the program.
According to the Brewers, this is the first U.S. professional sports team to link a waste stream to a specific product.
