WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson is standing behind the "People's Convoy."
That's the group of more than 1,000 truckers and their supporters protesting Covid-19 mask and vaccine mandates by driving around the Washington, D.C. beltway.
Johnson met with some of the group's members on Tuesday, March 8.
Health experts have repeatedly criticized the Republican senator for spreading misinformation about Covid, but Johnson is firing back.
He says it's the medical professionals who are wrong.
"Those of us that have been trying to convey the truth, we've been vilified," Johnson said. "We've been censored, we've been accused of spreading misinformation. I'm sorry, the misinformation's been spread by the Covid cartel."
An organizer for the convoy says their truckers will continue circling the beltway "until we're heard."
