Early Evening Update: Severe risk done for the day, but a few showers possible.

Updated: 6:00 p.m. June 16, 2024

The severe thunderstorms from Sunday afternoon have all weakened below severe levels. The risk for strong to severe storms the rest of the evening looks very low, but some pockets of light to moderate rain may be possible in our southern counties near the IL border. The severe thunderstorm watch will likely be canceled early.

A few more storms may be possible over the upcoming days. With all of the heat and humidity there will be lots of energy for storms to tap into but there's not much of a "spark" to make them go. We will be watching!

A few severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for southeast Wisconsin. The latest warning includes parts of Jefferson, Walworth and Waukesha Counties until 5:45 PM. This warning is for wind gusts to 60 mph and 1" size hail. These storms have a history of wind damage in northern Illinois.

Here's a radar image that will update with time:

As these storms roll through the severe thunderstorm watch will likely be cancelled but for now it remains in place for the counties highlighted below.

In addition to the storms, the heat has really kicked in with Milwaukee now at 91 degrees!

Stay tuned for further updates as the storms move through.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 8pm for Milwaukee, Waukesha, Racine, Kenosha, Jefferson, and Walworth counties.

Overnight storms near KC spawned a small area of low pressure, which is now triggering a cluster of severe storms in northwest Illinois. These current storms and an outflow boundary north of them are all tracking northeast towards southern Wisconsin.

There is plenty of heat and humidity for any storms that pop to work with as the warm front has pushed through most of southeastern Wisconsin.

The main window for strong to severe storms is 5-8 pm. Damaging winds, potentially up to 70 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are all possible.
