'She didn't deserve this:' Loved ones identify Milwaukee woman killed in domestic violence incident as a mother, MPS teacher
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The intersection of 58th and Hampton on Milwaukee's north side was awash with purple and silver Sunday night, as dozens gathered for a balloon release to mourn the loss of a life taken in the city's latest fatal domestic violence incident.
Milwaukee police said a 52-year-old man shot and killed a 51-year-old woman Saturday morning around 8:45 a.m.
While officials haven't formally identified the victim, loved ones told CBS 58 her name is Latonia Ford and that she was a mother and a third-grade teacher with Milwaukee Public Schools.
"Friendly, outgoing, and would give anybody the shirt off her back," said Cheryl Ford-Ross, the victim's sister. "Whatever she could do to help you, she would do it. She'd go to the grocery store and make friends, she just loved everybody."
Ford-Ross said the man responsible for her sister's death was a long-term boyfriend of eight years, with whom Ford had recently ended things with.
“She was coming to pick a friend up, getting ready to go spend Saturday together," Ford-Ross recalled. “He moved out of her house; he followed her somewhere and he shot her 15 times.”
Milwaukee police said the suspect later turned himself into a local station.
"He didn’t want anyone else to have her," Ford-Ross said. “I want him to pay for taking my sister’s life. There’s nothing else he can do but pay for taking her life.”
Criminal charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office.
CBS 58 is not naming the suspect until charges have officially been filed.
