'She had dreams, she was going places': Family demands justice for daughter killed in hit-and-run
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Family and friends were in tears as they honored Talise Dunmore who was killed in a hit-and-run, while also praying for her sister, De-Lisha, who is still recovering from the accident.
Dozens gathered for a vigil on Saturday, Sept. 28, along 76th and Good Hope where the accident occurred. Loved ones say they remember Talise as a kind, loving, goofy and beautiful soul.
"She had dreams, she was going places, she wanted to do things, but that was snatched from her," said Martha Dunmore the mother of Talise and De-Lisha Dunmore. "That was snatched from us and it's not fair. It's not fair to me as her mother, it's not fair to her faither, it's not fair to her siblings that adore her."
Twenty-year-old Talise and her 23-year-old sister De-Lisha were crossing 76th street when they were hit by a car police say was going 80 miles per hour.
Talise was killed and De-Lisha is recovering from a fractured knee, sprained ankle and wrist.
"I am so very grateful to still have my daughter De-Lisha because I could be burying two children and it's not fair."
While an arrest was made, the community and city leaders say they won't stop until there is justice.
"All the charges need to be implemented for both sisters, not just one," said Community Activist Tracey Dent.
The driver, Stephanie Sykes is being held on a quarter of a million-dollar bond. Shes charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and hit-and-run resulting in death.
A GoFundMe was started here to help with De-Lisha's recovery and to start a fund in Talise's honor.
