‘She was all I had’: Sister remembers woman killed with best friend in Milwaukee hit-and-run
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - On Sunday night, 49-year-old Amy Austin and 48-year-old May Daiber were killed in a hit-and-run near the intersection of 20th St. and Teutonia Avenue.
“They just loved each other, just loved each other and they counted on each other, and they showed up for each other,” Amy’s sister, Debora Austin, said. “May was literally her best friend.”
Debora says her sister beat ovarian cancer and was getting ready to move out of Milwaukee.
“After all the fighting that she’s done to win over that cancer, some stupid person, who just doesn’t care about human life, just hit her and didn't care,” Austin said.
Debora and Amy were planning on moving in together in Whitewater to help take care of their parents.
“We had all these future plans to move in there and live together and take care of my parents, and somebody took that from us, somebody took that from my family, they just took everything from me,” Austin said.
Debora and Amy were scheduled to fly to Mexico for a vacation on July 21, but now Debora is forced to cancel the flights.
“I don’t know what I’m gonna do now without her, because she was all I had,” Austin said.
