Man charged with reckless homicide in connection to Sheboygan Falls fatal shooting
Update: Sept. 28 at 2:24 p.m.
SHEBOYGAN FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Prosecutors have charged 35-year-old Luis Cruz-Burgos with first-degree reckless homicide in connection to the fatal shooting of a man in Sheboygan Falls.
According to the criminal complaint, Mike Robinson and a group of people he was with went out to the Sheboygan Falls bars to celebrate a hole in one made during a father-son golf event.
At one of the taverns, the group met Cruz-Burgos while failing to secure an Uber ride back to their hotel.
Witnesses say Cruz-Burgos told them that he was a DoorDash driver and they offered to pay him cash for a ride to their hotel in Kohler.
The complaint goes on to say the victim refused to pay Cruz-Burgos after he said he wanted more than $40, "for five minutes of work."
After failing to negotiate a ride, the complaint says the victim and his friends began to walk to their hotel.
While on their way, another witness in the group said they observed what they believed to be the same Ford Escape that Cruz-Burgos was driving, "slow down and open fire at his friend and accelerate fast, speeding off."
The witness reportedly told officials, "The whole incident was very quick and to the best of his recollection he heard one gunshot, which sounded like the sound of a firecracker."
According to the complaint, the victim had a single gunshot wound to the chest and died at the scene.
Law enforcement was able to obtain video surveillance of the incident, both from businesses and the driving aftermath along Pine Street, Buffalo Street, and Monroe Street.
In the complaint, officials noted the headlights and fog lights of the suspect vehicle on the security footage and those of the vehicle Cruz-Burgos was driving and had similar characteristics.
After being interviewed by police, Cruz-Burgos said that he has worked for DoorDash for approximately nine months.
It is currently unclear when Cruz-Burgos will make his initial court appearance.
