MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Shoppers cleared the aisles at the El Rey Food Market on Milwaukee's south side Tuesday morning, in competitive speed shopping.
The folks in green shirts were participating in the 12th Annual Race for the Hungry.
It's a benefit to help the Milwaukee Christian Center in its mission to make sure people get enough to eat.
The racers had a list of items that might help hungry people, and whoever picked up all the items was the winner.
"In the last year, we have seen a phenomenal need," said Karen Higgins, executive Director of Milwaukee Christian Center. "People who are coming to us are falling between the cracks and they are really trying to make -- they are trying to take care of their food needs."
The winner received a $100 gift card, the runner-up received $50 and all the food in the shopping carts went to the Christian Center.
North Shore Bank sponsored the race.
