Shucks and sips: New seafood restaurant opens in Wauwatosa

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Calling all seafood lovers, a new spot is now open in Wauwatosa.

Outlaw Oyster offers everything from lobster sliders to a classic fish sandwich, and of course, you can't forget the oysters.

"Oysters are really tied to the place that they are from, so if you have clean water, you're going to taste that in the oyster," said Devin Eichler, owner of Outlaw Oyster.

Tucked inside of Crafty Cow in Wauwatosa, you'll find an intimate seafood gem.

"Outlaw is in the name for a reason," said Eichler.

Outlaw Oyster owner Devin Eichler is prepping the kitchen.

"We wanted a seafood place that didn't really have rules, that didn't fit anything else in the area," said Eichler.

He says you'll get a tasty blend of the Northwoods and the east coast.

"Get a glass of wine, half a dozen oysters, or a cheese ball," said Eichler.

There are only 35 seats in the restaurant, but the food comes out fast and fresh.

"The smoked fish comes from Suzie-Q, which is up in Two Rivers. We can order that up until 11 o'clock at night and get it fresh the next morning," Eichler explained.

Eichler says the smaller space gives a cozy feel.

"For us, a lot of what we do is try to bring people together. More relaxed, more casual, more approachable," said Eichler.

Eichler is not new to the Milwaukee restaurant scene; he also owns Crafty Cow.

While Outlaw Oyster just opened in early February, he says this space will give them a real chance to thrive.

"We are able to actually do a real test run and change things and move things," said Eichler.

Once out of the pop-up phase, Eichler hopes to expand and one day have an oyster food truck.

"Imagine pulling up and getting a glass of champagne. Nothing better," said Eichler.

Outlaw Oyster is first come, first serve.
