MILWAUEKE (CBS 58) -- For 627 people across the Milwaukee area this Christmas, a gift full of love came in a white plastic bag at The Neighborhood Kitchen at 8103 W. Tower Road in Milwaukee.

"So, this is the dessert table and cranberry sauce," said Johnna Taylor, founder of Moms Matter Inc.

It's not Santa's workshop and there are no toys, but this kitchen and the ladies in it are busy preparing gifts just the same.

"So, once it come out the oven, I just spread on it with a lot of love and hopefully they will enjoy it," said Stephania Sampson-Taylor, Taylor's stepmom.

Johnna Taylor is a single mom and says the holidays can be tough.

"I just don't want other families, I don't want other families to feel how I felt," said Taylor.

They say one person really can make a difference.

"It's better to give than to receive, right? Like, there's no comparison," said Taylor.

This year, Johnna Taylor went with her heart. She put up flyers to feed moms in-need and their families in the 53206 zip code.

"We’ll be working late tonight," said Cooper, Taylor's partner.

But the good deed grew, with word of mouth.

"Just kind of gives us a best fit route from the kitchen down, but that's 48 properties we're about to go hit right now," said Cooper.

Taylor and her family have spent their own holiday in this kitchen, making mashed potatoes, green beans and corn, and ham or turkey. Once packed, it's time to deliver. It's a quick drop and go, Santa-style.

What started as an idea to help the 53206 zip code has ended like this with deliveries all over our area.

A majority were in Milwaukee, but homes in Wauwatosa, Whitefish Bay and New Berlin were among the recipients.

We just want everybody that gets a plate on Christmas to feel like somebody's thinking about them. Somebody loves them," said Taylor.
