MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Mexican Fiesta is just 10 days away, but balancing the large event and protecting the community's health is a challenge.
The organization held a vaccine clinic Tuesday, Aug. 17, at its offices on S. 20th Street.
People who got their jab Tuesday received a ticket to Mexican Fiesta, as well as a ticket to a Brewers game.
Leaders of Mexican Fiesta say the clinic makes the vaccine accessible to the community.
"The idea is how can we take the step, the responsible step, in making sure that the vaccination is right here in the community, easy to take, free to the public," said Teresa Mercado, executive director of the Wisconsin Hispanic Scholarship Foundation.
"Towards the beginning, I mean, we were kinda iffy about the vaccine, since it was done so quickly," said Sergio Hernandez Perez, who was vaccinated Tuesday. "I was kinda convinced now that it's pretty safe."
The clinic runs until 6:30 p.m.
Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are available.
