JEFFERSON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The leading producers of soy sauce broke ground in Jefferson County to expand its footprint in Wisconsin.
Kikkoman, the soy sauce manufacturer, will begin building a new 250,000 square-foot facility after state, local and company officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in Jefferson Wednesday.
The $800 million expansion is expected to create 83 new jobs over the next 12 years.
It’s the company's second plant in addition to Walworth, Wis., about 40 miles from the new facility. The Walworth plant made history as one of the first production facilities built in the United States by a Japanese company back in 1973.
The soy sauce company will also be offered $15.5 million in tax credits after Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. approved the plan.
The new facility will produce soy sauce, including teriyaki sauce with the first shipments expected in fall of 2026.
