Happy Fall Y'all!!! Thursday officially starts the astronomical season! The autumnal equinox will happen at 8:03 PM Thursday evening.
This year the start to fall coincides exactly with our first round of chilly temps in months. Lows Thursday morning dropped into the 40s and low 50s but it's going to be even colder Friday morning. That's when temperatures will drop into the low to mid 40s for many and even some inland counties may get down to the upper 30s.
We should mostly stay away from frost concerns but definitely the coldest air in a long time. The rest of the weekend and beginning of next week will see low temperatures get back to average numbers in the low 50s lakeside and mostly 40s inland.
Checking in on fall color for the start of fall we haven't seen much major change across the state. Only two counties, Winnebago and Barron, are seeing 25% peak color, the rest of the state hasn't seen any noticeable changes. With this blast of cold air the next week we will see a lot of trees start to change their leaves.
