MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's first snowfall of the year tested the city's most seasoned winter weather drivers as state troopers said they responded to several crashes throughout the day due to weather.
State Trooper Nicholas Lorenzen said it was a busy morning for his crew Tuesday.
"No matter how cautious you drive in this weather, it's going to be dangerous, but we’ve had multiple crashes that we've been handling in the last hour," said Lorenzen.
He said that not only did they face the challenge of the snow, but also felt the brunt of being short-staffed.
"We're very limited on personnel as well, so it’s a challenge for us to get out to these scenes safely and deal with these accidents," said Lorenzen.
There have been multiple vehicle crashes on I-94 -- 7 Mile Road was shut down for several hours for a semi rollover.
State Trooper Lorenzen is urging people to drive slowly and stay home if possible.
"While we go through this weather today, if you don't have to be on the roads, if you don't have anything to do, stay home, stay safe," said Lorenzen.
