Strike Out Fentanyl campaign hopes to raise awareness about the drug and its fatal poisoning
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In 2021, Logan Rachwal took a pill that he didn't know had fentanyl in it. Rachwal was just 19-years old when he lost his life.
Now, his family is honoring his memory.
“He died in his dorm room at UWM. It was devastating for us and we don’t want any other family to go through what we went through," said Rick Rachwal, Logan's dad. “It’s so potent that it doesn’t take a lot.”
The Love, Logan Foundation is launching Strike Out Fentanyl. The new campaign combines their son's love of baseball and raises awareness about his death.
“We went to games all the time. We had season tickets. We would travel to Arizona for spring training," said Erin Rachwal, Logan's mom. “We miss him, a ton. But we always say it's so important because we lost a son, but we want to save other kids.”
Caden, Logan's older brother threw the opening pitch in honor of his brother and other siblings affected by the loss of a loved one due to fentanyl.
“You’re not going to have them later in your life. That’s something you never really think of. For me, I never really thought my older brother was going to pass away before me," said Caden Rachwal.
Erin Rachwal says they want all families to know it takes just one pill to lose a life.
“It’s a bad family, oh they didn’t do the right things with their kids. No, we did all those things, so it can be anybody," said Erin Rachwal.
They want every family to walk away from the Brewer's game with Logan's story.
“My one hope is that people understand that it's a very big problem today," said Caden Rachwal.
A Strike Out Fentanyl billboard at the Ixonia/Sullivan HWY F exit on I-94 went up Friday, Sept. 20.
A smaller billboard went up in Johnsonville on Saturday, Sept. 21.
