Student struck by car near Wauwatosa East HS, Lincoln Elementary

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A student in Wauwatosa is recovering after being hit by a car Thursday morning, May 14, near Milwaukee and Wauwatosa Avenue.

Police say the girl suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. 

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials. 

Parents of students at Wauwatosa East High School and Lincoln Elementary were sent an email Thursday morning, informing them of the incident and saying in part:

"As a reminder, the area surrounding East High School and Lincoln Elementary School is a high-pedestrian traffic zone during arrival and dismissal times, and we urge all drivers and pedestrians to use extreme caution, remain alert, and follow all traffic laws to keep our students, staff, and families safe."

The email says classes will continue as normal Thursday, with counseling and support available for any students or staff who may need it. 

An investigation is ongoing.
