MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Tuesday, local students enjoyed mild temperatures at the Hunger Task Force farm in Franklin.
Twenty kids from Story Elementary and Hmong American Peace Academy got a chance to learn about healthy eating and foods they may not be familiar with.
It's part of a six-week program called Cooking with Culture, letting kids get hands-on learning on the farm and in the kitchen.
The Hunger Task Force says there's a gap in nutrition education among students of color.
With Tuesday's visit, students were exposed to foods through different cultural lenses that can be a good part of a regular diet.
"Allowing kids the experience, celebrating their heritage and celebrating different types of food from around the world, having this opportunity to teach kids about different cultures and what they eat and the different fruits and vegetables there are, really exposes them to things outside of what they know," said Matt King, CEO of Hunger Task Force.
Tuesday's program had students harvesting their own vegetables and preparing their own meals.
