MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are looking for a man accused of starting a fire in a building on MATC's downtown campus Tuesday, May 13.

Staff members say the man walked onto the third floor of the Student Center's south building just before 7 a.m. and intentionally lit a chair on fire, forcing an evacuation.

The fire was quickly extinguished by two MATC employees, according to the school.

They say the fire activated their sprinkler system, causing water damage throughout the southern building. Due to the damage, the building remains closed to the community.

Public Safety reviewed footage and saw the suspect immediately left the area after setting the blaze.

He's described as a Black male, about 30 years old, standing about 5'8" tall, with a medium build and short, black hair. He was carrying a green or blue backpack with a navy stripe down the front and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and black and red flipflops/slide shoes with black socks.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Public Safety at 414-297-6200 or the Milwaukee Police Department at 414-933-4444.
