Taste of Egypt Festival taking place in Oak Creek this weekend

OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Taste of Egypt Festival runs Friday, Aug. 22 through Sunday, Aug. 24 at St. Mary and St. Antonious Coptic Orthodox Church in Oak Creek.

The family-friendly event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day and features traditional Egyptian cuisine, cooking demonstrations, camel rides, music, bounce houses, games for children, Coptic iconography, a bazaar, church tours and more.

Mary Banoub and Maria Gharabawy, two of the organizers, joined us on Friday to offer a preview.

The festival aims to offer a chance to experience the history and culture of Egypt while supporting Milwaukee’s Coptic community. Organizers say it’s an opportunity to try new food and explore the church’s heritage through both modern celebration and ancient tradition.
