Teen passenger dies in Racine SUV rollover, alcohol suspected
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A teenager did not survive her injuries following a vehicular accident in Racine late Tuesday, Feb. 28.
A report issued by the Racine Police Department notes that they received reports of a rollover accident at approximately 10:28 p.m. near Mead St. and 18th St. Upon arrival, officers found a heavily damaged GMC SUV and two parked cars.
The 18-year-old female passenger in the back seat of the GMC was unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses and the occupants of the vehicle, the GMC was traveling at a high speed when the driver lost control and hit a parked car. The impact caused the GMC to roll.
The driver, reportedly an 18-year-old male, was arrested at the scene, and it is believed that alcohol played a role in the accident. The other occupants of the SUV, a 20-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were both transported to a local hospital for treatment.
