Benefits of ’Dry January’ along with a few mocktail recipes
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It's a busy time for the sound of skates and laughter at The Pettit National Ice Center. As the temperatures drop, more people head out for open skate. They also offer skate classes for all, ages 3 to 80.
"Figure skating, hockey and speed skating -- they're each unique, but they also share something very common with the fundamentals of learning to skate that can carry over to any type, whatever skate you are trying," said Mackenzie Neuendorf.
Neuendorf is the director of the skate school. She says the ice is also a unique oval to be able to skate on as one of the only skate centers of its kind.
"We're only one of two facilities in the US, the other is Salt Lake City, that offers a 400-meter Olympic-sized track to be able to speed skate on," said Neuendorf.
For the first time in 20 years, the Speed Skating World Cup will be held at The Pettit National Ice Center this January.
Tickets are available for people to watch champion and Olympic-trained speed skaters compete at the Pettit.
