MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One local plowing company is helping those down south who are getting hit hard with winter weather.

"I mean they kind of treat our guys like heroes," said Thomas Weber, the owner of Weber Landscaping.

Weber has been in the snow plowing business for around 30 years, covering multiple counties in the state. Now, he's extending his reach to those in need down south.

"We've been very busy this winter," said Weber. "Even though everybody is like, woah, we aren't getting that much snow here, we are busy down there."

Sunday morning, Weber sent 16 crew members and eight trucks to make the 20-hour trek to Houston as they received around 3-5 inches of snow.

While it doesn’t seem like much, for Texas, snowplows and prep are rarely needed.

"Not in Houston, no, they don't even own a shovel," said Weber.

He says there, an inch of snow can have a major impact.

"The city is shut down, the highways, everything," said Weber. "They're not even opening anything until everything melts."

This isn't their first trip. Around two weeks ago, they also sent help to Kansas City, which, even with their experience, was a challenge.

"Very challenging," said Weber. "Having a quarter inch of ice and then 12-14 inches of snow, and people there are not used to it, so they are just driving over it, packing it down."

While it's not an easy journey, he says it's all worth it in the end.

"That was probably the worst part of it, the travel," said Weber. "When they get down there, that's the easy part, that's what we do, and we make people happy."

Those crews sent to Houston started their journey back Wednesday and are expected to arrive back in Elkhorn Thursday.
