Tony Award-winning 'jokebox musical' Tootsie headed to Milwaukee for a limited engagement

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Tony Award-winning musical, Tootsie, is set to make its Milwaukee premiere at the Marcus Performing Arts Center from June 6 to 11.

The limited one-week engagement marks the final show of the 2022-23 "Johnson Financial Group Broadway at the Marcus Center" season.

Tootsie tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but difficult actor who struggles to find work. His show-stopping act of desperation ultimately lands him the role of a lifetime.

The musical a score by 2018 Tony-winner David Yazbek, known for his work on The Band's Visit and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Praised as a "joyful delight" by The Washington Post, Tootsie has been called "musical comedy heaven" by Rolling Stone and "the most uproarious new musical in years!" by The Hollywood Reporter. With a reputation for being packed with punchlines, Bloomberg dubbed Tootsie a "jokebox musical."

Starting at $40, individual tickets for Tootsie will be available for purchase on Friday, March 24, at 10 a.m. Tickets can be obtained through the Marcus Center website at MarcusCenter.org, by phone at (414) 273-7206 or in person at the Marcus Center Box Office located at 929 North Water St. in Milwaukee.
