MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – State and local leaders met in Milwaukee Wednesday morning to talk tourism.
Governor Tony Evers spoke about the impact the industry is having on the state.
A recent study shows tourism is continuing to grow. In 2018, the industry generated $21 billion. Last year, 112 million people visited the Badger State, which is similar to the national average. Evers says he wants to keep growing the industry by putting an emphasis on outdoor activities.
“Focusing on outdoor recreation is critically important,” he said. “That’s why we’re going to create, through the budget, an Office of Outdoor Recreation.”
Around a quarter of the state’s tourism money comes from the Milwaukee area.
