UW Milwaukee removes chief of university police department

MILWAUKEE-UW Milwaukee removed Michael Marzion as Chief of the university's police department.

This after an investigation into communications he had with a student earlier this year.

Vice Chancellor Tom Luljak issued the following statement:

\"Because of the rules governing Classified Service employees, Marzion will now return to the position of Police Captain in the department, a job he held prior to being appointed Chief.  However, Marzion will remain on administrative leave while the university considers additional actions.

Gregory Habeck, who has been serving UWM as Assistant Chief and leading the department during Marzion's administrative leave, will now serve as the Interim Police Chief for UWM.

The University is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for every member of the campus community in which to live, learn, and work.  The University Police Department's mission is to carry out that commitment for the campus.\"
