WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Fires serve as a great reminder of the importance of having working smoke detectors.
The Waukesha Fire Department and the Red Cross came together to make sure homes in Waukesha have them.
Volunteers were out this morning, Saturday, Sept. 28, talking to residents about home fire safety, and installing smoke alarms for free.
"Smoke detectors are the early warning device for our citizens and for everybody in the southeast region to be able to be notified when you have a problem, so that you can find your family members or find anybody else who's home and get outside the home," said Assistant Fire Chief Joe Hoffman with the Waukesha Fire Department.
The Red Cross offers free smoke detector installation to anyone in the area.
