14 arrested at Bayshore Mall on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and battery
GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- More than a dozen arrests were made at Bayshore Mall in Glendale on Sunday, March 29. According to Glendale police, 14 people were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and battery.
Cellphone video obtained by CBS 58 shows a large group of people gathering in and around stores of the mall on Sunday afternoon.
An email sent to nearby apartment residents said the incident may have been an attempt at a "mall teen takeover."
Benjamin Zeimentz works and lives near Bayshore. The 17-year-old wasn't there for the "takeover," but saw videos of the chaos.
"It worried me a little bit," Zeimentz said. "I wouldn't say it scared me necessarily, but it definitely made me a little worried about what can happen in the future, and what can happen to me, because as I teen myself, I'm worried about potentially being wrapped up in things that I don't want to be wrapped up in."
In 2024 Bayshore began requiring parental guidance for guests 17 and under after 3 p.m. Fridays through Sundays, but now the policy has changed to every day.
Zeimentz believes the policy used to work.
"They definitely were enforcing it when it first came out, but as of about a couple weeks ago, I see they haven't been enforcing it quite as much, so it hasn't really had much of an impact," said Zeimentz.
Bayshore released the following statement to CBS 58 on the incident:
BAYSHORE continues to work closely with the Glendale Police Department following the unauthorized gathering on Sunday. We are continuing to maintain an increased security presence, including both Glendale police officers and BAYSHORE’s on-site security team, to ensure a safe environment for all guests.
BAYSHORE is a family-friendly shopping destination, and we welcome teens to visit with their parents or guardians to enjoy everything the center has to offer, from pizza and Mochinut donuts to shopping and entertainment.
We want to remind all guests of our Parental Guidance Required (PGR) policy, which now remains in effect daily after 3 p.m. until further notice. Guests 17 and under must be accompanied by a supervising adult age 21 or older. BAYSHORE’s code of conduct is always in place, and individuals who do not follow these expectations will be asked to leave.
We appreciate the continued partnership of the Glendale Police Department and our security team in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
