MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- A popular German bar and lounge in Milwaukee is rallying around its head chef, who suffered a serious medical emergency around Christmas time.

The staff members at Von Trier on Farwell Avenue are asking for community support to help their head chef, Dave Kressin, through this time of recovery. Chris Shallop is the general manager at Von Trier and says it's people like Dave who help make the place so special.

"Our head chef, David, was rushed to the hospital just a little bit before Christmas. There were some complications at the hospital, and he ended up being put in a coma for about a week and a half. It was kind of touch and go but he's out of the woods now," said Shallop.

The staff is hoping to make recovery a little smoother. "He seems to be on the up and up, however with any hospital stay, there's going to be some medical bills, and we're just trying to raise a little bit of money to help him out," said Shallop.

Right now, they're collecting donations that will be used for a big raffle and fundraising party in Dave's honor. "In a time where it can be tough to find good leadership and good help, he really is what we needed here. He's great at organizing the kitchen and making sure all the food that's coming out is incredible," Shallop said.

The fundraising event is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. If you can't make it, keep an eye on the Von Trier Facebook page for updates on other ways you can help out.
