NOW: Warm and relatively dry October comes to an end as we look ahead to when snow begins in November
NEXT:

Welcome to November, everyone! Halloween is in the past and along with it, the end of October. Temperatures were pretty mild during the month of October. The average temperature of 56.3 degrees was over three degrees above average and goes down as the 12th warmest October on record.

October started warm when we were on record watch and had highs in the upper 80s. The coldest temps of the month came during its last weekend with lows in the low 30s and some 20s on October 25th.

October had some showers but overall it ended a bit dry. The average rainfall during the month is 2.78" but we only saw 2.16" of rain this October. That rain total was more than last year which saw less than an inch and a half. It was right in the middle of precipitation rankings stretching back to the late 1800s.

October also averages snow during it's month but this year we did not get any. Last year we officially had a trace with some snow flurries but no snow fell this year so we are officially in a snow deficit with an average three tenths of snow during the month.

We are now a few days into the month of November which is a month that averages a little snow with 2.5" falling and over 2" of total liquid precipitation. For temps, November sees average highs fall from the mid 50s to around 40 and lows go from the upper 30s to the upper 20s.

Over the weekend we saw the average date for the first trace of snow come and go on November 2nd so we are now later than average for seeing the first snowflakes of the season. The first measurable snow of a tenth of an inch or more is right in the middle of the month and we don't average our first inch of snow until the beginning of December.

We also saw Daylight Saving Time come to an end over the weekend as the clocks "fell back" an hour. Both the sunrise and sunset times are an hour early than they were at the end of last week. The sunrise is now around 6:30 AM but the sunset is way early at 4:40 PM. Total daylight is now getting close to 10 hours as well.
