CBS 58

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Washington County patrol deputy has resigned after being accused of retail theft while on duty.

The sheriff’s office took to social media to announce on Wednesday, March 26 that a nearly 10-year veteran of the department is the subject of a criminal investigation conducted by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began after a report on Feb. 27 involving alleged repeated food thefts from a gas station in Richfield. The deputy was placed on administrative leave and later attended a pre-disciplinary hearing on Monday, March 24.

The case has been referred to a special prosecutor following a request from the Washington County District Attorney’s Office, as officials noted that the former deputy's resignation does not impact any pending criminal proceedings.
