WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Waukesha man is representing himself in a murder trial.
The victim, Carlos Maldonado, was killed two years ago.
Kevin Lychwick is accused of shooting him, wrapping his body in a tarp, and leaving it in the woods behind his apartment building.
Maldonado was Lychwick's neighbor. Police say Lychwick had a hitlist and referred to Maldonado's killing as "Operation Slop Shop."
The court upheld several objections during his opening statements Monday, June 8, as he proclaimed his innocence and called the trial a "travesty of justice."
"A serious wrong is being perpetrated here," Lychwick said. "In my personal opinion, I think more than one person was involved in this homicide."
"Objection."
Lychwick claimed Waukesha police edited body camera video of his arrest.
Later, witnesses took the stand, including Maldonado's daughter. She talked about not knowing where her father went for several months.
"I would call homeless shelters and stuff, and then I would call hospitals, and then I got to a point where I was so desperate I would call psychics because I just wanted to know what happened," she said.
The trial will continue Tuesday with more witness testimony.
