MILWAUKEE (CBS) -- Milwaukee police presented fallen Officer Peter Jerving with the traditional end of watch ceremony after his funeral on Monday, Feb. 13.

Jerving was shot and killed in the line of duty while attempting to apprehend a robbery suspect on Feb. 7, according to MPD.

Jerving was presented with the full honors and rituals of a line of duty death, including the three-volley salute, bagpipes and the folding of the flag.

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman knelt before Jerving's mother as he handed her the flag, a symbol of her son's sacrifice.

Tears were shed as a dispatcher made Jerving's final radio call.

"Attention all squads, prepare for the final call for squad 4320, Officer Peter Jerving," the dispatcher said.

Following tradition, the dispatcher called for the fallen officer multiple times, followed by moments of silence.

"No response from squad 4320," the dispatcher said.

The dispatcher honored Jerving with a quick tribute.

"You have made your family and the people you have served very proud. Your presence with the Milwaukee Police Department will always be remembered and never forgotten," the dispatcher said.

Milwaukee police will retire Jerving's badge number.

"Officer Peter Jerving, badge number 3422 of the Milwaukee Police Department, end of watch Feb. 7, 2023. May you rest in peace. We have the watch from here," the dispatcher said.

Officers from different agencies worked in MPD's district four on Monday, allowing his closest colleagues to attend the funeral and ceremony.
