'We love it': Brewers bring special surprise to Wilson Park Senior Center
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Each year, the Milwaukee Brewers host their #KindnessinMKE initiative, going beyond the diamond to do random acts of kindness across southeast Wisconsin.
For the start of the ninth year, they served up a surprise for some long-time Brewers fans.
Aerobics class is a Friday favorite at Wilson Park Senior Center, but this Friday's class threw a curveball.
The Milwaukee Brewers Famous Racing Sausages rolled in, ready to move, along with All-Star alum, Ryan Braun.
"This was a much bigger deal than I had been told about," said Caroline Sanderson, the aerobics instructor and a member at Wilson Park Senior Center.
Of course, they still had to finish the class.
"I saw all five sausages flapping and kicking. I thought, their hats are going to fall off!" Sanderson laughed.
"Every day, we don't get all that excitement," said member and volunteer, Mary Conaway.
Apparently, the class is a workout.
"Some of them were making fun of me. There was some pretty good banter," Braun said. "They were making sure I was able to keep up with them."
Often, the Brewers' surprise visits are at schools or grocery stores, but this one was unique.
"A lot of these people have been longtime Brewer fans, so you hear stories that far pre-dated my time here as a Brewer," Braun explained. "I hope that they understand how grateful and appreciative we are for their support."
"People can't get to the game anymore once you become a senior," Conaway said. "This is just bringing it to us, and we love it."
For players past and present, it's a way to show fans their love, even if it means breaking a sweat.
"The bend side-to-side, bend forward thing got me a little bit, so we'll see how sore I am when I wake up tomorrow morning," Braun laughed.
Along with visiting fans, the Brewers and the Brewers Community Foundation are donating more than $50,000 to organizations and individuals this week.
