MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- With icy weather imminent, Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport is taking caution and canceling flights on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

So far, about 40 departures have been canceled between now and 9 p.m., and nearly 60 planes expecting to arrive here in Milwaukee will not.

The bad weather across the Midwest is impacting all airlines and airports.

Twenty-two-hundred flights have been canceled nationwide.

"I was on my way in and two minutes before I hit the parking lot, I looked at my phone and it said my flight was canceled," said Eli Radjenovich.

There are also a handful of delays.

Erica Wyatt was supposed to leave Milwaukee for a work meeting in Detroit. Now, she's just trying to make it home to Atlanta.

"I had at least five delays and then that's when I found out that my meeting was canceled, so the earliest I can get out of here now is Friday. So, I'm just trying to get a hotel and regroup and hunker down until Friday morning," said Wyatt.

Others who showed up to the airport looking for a flight Wednesday quickly realized that wasn't going to happen.

As weather threatens roads and runways, airports could see similar cancelations Thursday.

If you're supposed to be traveling Wednesday or Thursday, you can check your flight before you go to the airport
