'We're very excited about JD Vance:' RNC delegates react to JD Vance ahead of Wednesday speech
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At the Republican National Convention the spotlight is on the new VP pick, JD Vance.
Vance has never attended a national political convention before Wednesday. Now he will speak before the convention in the prime-time spot and the pressure is on to appease American voters.
Ohio Senator JD Vance was announced as the pick two days ago but today he will speak for the first time as former president Donald Trump's newly minted Vice President pick.
"We are very excited about JD Vance being the pick he brings a lot to the ticket and shows the unity that we are getting behind and our momentum is picking up speed,” said Wisconsin Delegate Georgia Maxwell.
Maxwell says even though Vance was raised as a Democrat, he is completely on board with the Republican Party.
"He said 'yeah, I was wrong, my conclusions were wrong' but after he saw the proof was in the pudding so to speak, he’s all in and I think that will resonate with undecided voters as well as some of the never Trumpers,” said Maxwell.
Stephen Garner is an Alternate Texas Delegate. He says Vance is going to help the undecided voter make up their mind.
“I think we have a lot of people in America looking right now because they got questions about what they are going to do. When they look at JD Vance and they look at who he is and what he’s done and where he’s from I think it's going to get people to be like 'mmh maybe I do need to need to look at options," said Garner.
Garner says Vance's Ohio roots will serve him well in Midwest states -- like Wisconsin.
"So many of those people in middle America -- if you look at Ohio where he’s from, Kentucky where his family is from, if you look at those areas that have such strong working-class democratic voting bases and if those people can take a look at who he is, who he represents and what he brings to the ticket," said Garner.
Earlier Wednesday morning, the Biden-Harris campaign held a news conference slamming Vance for his views on things like abortion, taxes, and his unwillingness to accept the results of the 2020 election.
