Winter Storm Watch issued for entire area head of Friday's powerful snowstorm

Here we go again! A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for all of southeast Wisconsin beginning at 6am Friday and ending at noon Saturday.

This will be a powerful low pressure system that gets stronger as Friday progresses. Snow moves in around daybreak Friday morning and will be fairly heavy late morning through early evening. The snow won't be quite as wet as what we experienced on Tuesday, but it will still be packy snow to start. Another difference with this system is the wind. Wind gusts of 25-40 mph are likely throughout Friday and Saturday, but very strong gusts of 45-55 mph are possible Friday evening into Saturday morning.

In addition to travel becoming increasingly difficult on Friday, the strong winds will cause blowing, drifting, and poor visibility. Additionally, with winds that strong, power outages will become a concern Friday evening into early Saturday. We're currently expected a widespread 6 to 10" of accumulation with locally higher totals of 12" not out of the question.

Very cold air will also move in behind the system. What snow falls during this event won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
