Wisconsin DHS opens applications for $15 million in grants for home and community-based healthcare

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) is accepting applications for $15 million in grants to support Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) for older adults and individuals with disabilities.

Medicaid HCBS providers and agencies in Wisconsin can apply for amounts of $25,000 to $1 million in grant funding for projects that strengthen the HCBS system and support quality and innovation.

The grant applications are open until Tuesday, Mar. 21 and the funds will be distributed geographically across urban and rural areas, supporting diverse organizations and populations, including members and their families, as well as HCBS providers and their employees.

Examples of eligible projects include supporting organizations and providers in their COVID-19 pandemic recovery, implementing specialized training for direct care workers and managers, helping individuals with disabilities find work, increasing specialized care for people with dementia or autism and expanding the use of technology and telehealth for HCBS providers.

The HCBS grant program is one of nine initiatives that DHS is implementing with American Rescue Plan Act funding.

In the previous round of grants, $17.3 million was awarded to 69 organizations to enhance and strengthen HCBS across the state.
