Wisconsin DNR confirms cougar caught on camera in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin DNR has confirmed that a cougar has been caught on video footage by landowners in Washington County.

The biologists say this is likely the same cougar that was recently identified in Fond du Lac County.

The Wisconsin DNR says there is currently no evidence of a breeding population in Wisconsin, with the nearest established cougar population being in the Black Hills area of South Dakota.

The animals dispersing through Wisconsin are believed to originate from that population, The DNR says.

More information is expected to be released on Wednesday.
